Nyege Nyege Festival 2025

Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 – 10th East Africa’s Music, Culture & Adventure Festival

Since its inception in 2015, Nyege Nyege has grown from a daring underground gathering by the Nile into one of Africa’s most celebrated cultural festivals. What started as a platform for experimental electronic music and alternative artistic expression has grown into a full cultural ecosystem: stages, artists, labels, fashion, film. Over the past ten years, Nyege Nyege has bridged local and international, tradition and cutting‐edge, giving space to sounds outside the mainstream and giving visibility to artists otherwise underrepresented.

This 10th anniversary isn’t just another festival—it’s a reckoning. It’s about honoring what has been built: the music, the community, the risks taken. And it’s also about laying down where Nyege Nyege wants to go in the next decade. The theme for 2025: “Ekiggunda Ky’omuliro – The Gathering of the Flame”—evoking ritual, energy, fire, renewal.

Venue & Vision of Nyege Nyege Festival 2025

For its milestone 10th edition, the festival is making a symbolic and physical move: Kalagala Falls is set to be its venue. The site is more than just scenic—it carries spiritual and community significance. Sacred trees, ancestral gathering spaces, the sounds of the Nile, lush surroundings. All this becomes part of the festival’s architecture.

Distance-wise, Kalagala Falls is about 20 minutes from Jinja, about 2.5 hours from Kampala by road—still accessible but remote enough to feel like a portal into something otherworldly. The organisers are positioning this location as a base for the next ten years—suggesting this isn’t just a one-off experiment but a long‐term commitment to roots, place, and environment.

What to Expect in Nyege Nyege Festival 2025

Dates & Duration

The Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 will take place from November 20th to 23rd, marking four unforgettable days of music, art, and culture. As the 10th anniversary edition, this year’s programming promises to be more immersive than ever, bringing together thousands of festival-goers from across the globe. Each day will unfold with carefully curated performances, workshops, cultural showcases, and late-night celebrations that stretch until dawn—capturing the essence of what Nyege Nyege is known for: freedom, creativity, and unstoppable energy.

600+ Artists Across 6 Stages

This year’s line-up is massive, with over 600 artists performing across six stages. Already, more than 300 names have been announced, including groundbreaking Ugandan talent, African trailblazers, and global icons. Expect to see legendary international names like Skrillex and Flowdan sharing space with East African innovators and underground gems. The soundscape will be eclectic—ranging from Afrohouse, experimental electronica, soukous, ambient, dancehall, and traditional drumming—a true reflection of the festival’s spirit of diversity. For music lovers, Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 will be a sonic journey across genres, cultures, and continents.

New Elements: Culture Beyond Music

As part of its evolution, the Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 is introducing bold new features that push the boundaries of what a festival can be. One of the most anticipated additions is the African Electronic Music Conference (AEMC), launched in partnership with the French Development Agency, creating a space for artists, producers, and industry leaders to connect, share, and innovate.
The festival will also host Kwetu Kwanza Fashion Shows, spotlighting African designers and celebrating creative self-expression through style. On the visual side, the Matatu Film Stage will present storytelling in motion, with films and documentaries that explore identity, music, and African culture. These new elements ensure that Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 is not just about music, but also a platform for broader artistic and cultural dialogue.

Experience & Environment: Connection to Place

Perhaps the most striking feature of Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 will be its deep connection to its new home—Kalagala Falls. The venue is both scenic and spiritual, offering lush wilderness, the roar of the River Nile, and sacred community spaces that set the stage for something more than a festival—it’s an immersion into nature and culture.
Festival-goers can look forward to camping under the stars and waking up to the sound of the river, or exploring the surrounding wilderness between performances. Adventure seekers will have opportunities to go white-water rafting, bungee jumping, quad biking, or boat cruising on the Nile, while others may choose to join guided cultural visits to local communities.
Importantly, the organizers are emphasizing responsible tourism—working with custodians of the land, ensuring respect for sacred sites, and implementing eco-conscious practices to minimize environmental impact. This blend of music, adventure, and cultural immersion makes Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 more than an event—it’s an experience of Uganda’s natural beauty, spiritual depth, and artistic brilliance.

How to Prepare for Nyege Nyege Festival 2025

Attending the Nyege Nyege Festival 2025 at Kalagala Falls will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but good preparation is the key to enjoying it fully. From travel logistics and packing to health, safety, and mindset, here’s everything you need to know before joining the biggest cultural celebration in Uganda.

Nyege Nyege Festival 2025
1. Secure Your Ticket Early

Nyege Nyege is one of the most popular festivals in Africa, attracting thousands of people from around the world. Tickets for the 2025 edition are expected to sell out quickly, especially since this is the 10th anniversary. Book online from official channels and confirm your entry early to avoid last-minute stress. Remember that different ticket packages may include general entry, VIP access, or camping options—choose one that suits your experience.

2. Plan Your Travel & Accommodation

The new venue, Kalagala Falls, is about 20 minutes from Jinja and roughly 2.5 hours from Kampala by road. Travelers should:

  • From Kampala: Book a private car, shuttle, or use festival transport services.

  • From Entebbe Airport: Arrange transfers in advance, as taxis can be expensive. Many tour operators also combine Nyege Nyege Festival with adventure safaris around Uganda.

For accommodation, you can either:

  • Camp at the Festival Grounds – the most immersive way to experience Nyege Nyege, right in the heart of the action.

  • Stay in Jinja Hotels & Lodges – a quieter option if you need a break from the 24-hour party energy.

3. Pack Smart for Four Days

Nyege Nyege is an outdoor festival, and Uganda’s tropical climate can be unpredictable. Here’s a smart packing list:

  • Light Clothes & Festival Outfits – breathable fabrics for daytime, colorful festival wear, and comfortable shoes for dancing.

  • Rain Gear – a poncho or waterproof jacket; rain showers are common in November.

  • Camping Gear – if you’re not renting festival tents, bring your own tent, sleeping bag, and mat.

  • Swimwear – for dips in the Nile or water-based adventures.

  • Reusable Water Bottle – stay hydrated while being eco-friendly.

  • Power Bank – to keep your phone alive for photos, maps, and contacts.

  • Essentials – sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight, and a small backpack.

4. Health & Safety First
  • Stay Hydrated & Eat Well – festival days can be long, so fuel up with food from the local vendors.

  • Look After Your Belongings – carry valuables in a secure bag, and avoid bringing unnecessary expensive items.

  • Medical Prep – bring basic medication (painkillers, allergy tablets) and check vaccination requirements for Uganda if traveling internationally.

  • Respect the Environment & Culture – Nyege Nyege Festival emphasizes sustainability and respect for sacred spaces. Follow guidelines, don’t litter, and honor the community hosting the event.

5. Keep an Open Mind & Spirit

Nyege Nyege isn’t just about music—it’s a cultural melting pot, an exchange of art, ideas, and identities. Prepare to meet people from across Africa and the world, to explore sounds you’ve never heard before, and to experience Uganda in a way few other events allow. Come ready to dance, learn, and celebrate diversity with joy and respect.
